Sportive tips for the under-prepared?!

Seriously, any tips for anyone who's toughed out a sportive when underdone?

    Try and get in a comfortable paced group for you and sit there all day.

    Dont ride to fast and you will be ok.
    Ride in a group if you feel gooing too fast drop from them and ride slowly yourself and wait for next group.

    Do it for fun and remember that it is not a race.

    Go at your own pace, or even better a group at your pace, and don't be tempted to up the effort to keep up. Better to finish slow than blow.

    some goof tips already mentioned.

    - don't get carried away at the start and take it easy for the 1st third
    - eat regularly. stick with real food (not gels etc) if you're not sure what woks for you
    - stay hydrated
    - check your bike well before the start
    - enjoy it!

    lay off booze the night before, drink enough water and eat properly in the evening, get a good nights sleep. eat a good breakfast
