I probably read it on here, so it has to be right, that it takes up to seven years for your body to 'remember' how to pedal. Whilst this is a comfort to someone like me, who has only cycled for the last 4/5 years and has the souplisse of a bag of gravel; is there any truth in it?

Top tip - if it sounds like bolleaux and cannot possibly be proved (or disproved) by science, then its probably bolleaux.

What? Surely you learned how to pedal before you were 5 years old?

In my experience an unfit long term cyclist can usually do better than a fit novice.

My point, if it was a point, was that I had not ridden a bicycle for more than forty years before I started again. The reason I could ride at all was that I told myself that I had ridden and you never forget :? It was gruesome to watch and to do. Others I have talked to seem to have returned with more ease but hadn't left such a big gap of time. Certainly people who ride regularly but infrequently, appear to have a greater facility in a bike than me.

You never forget. It's like riding a bike.
