Legs are to be carefully shaved at all times. If, for some reason your legs are to be left hairy, make sure you can dish out plenty of hurt to shaved riders

Nope, never have, never will, loads of my club mates and people I race with do, but I won't, regardless of how much pressure they put me under!!!!

    I shaved mine recently for a few reasons;

I'm a tart. They look good! Cycle shorts to gorilla legs looked silly.
I had a wasp get stuck in my leg hair and sting me, don't want this happening again.
If I come off I won't have hair in the road rash to deal with.

At first the sensation of bed sheets, trousers and the air rushing past your legs is odd and actually quite nice!

Today you're shaving your legs. Tomorrow you'll be painting your nails , wearing mascara, as asking "does my bum look big in this".

    It's a slippery slope :)

To me, hairy legs and lycra just looks bad. I am a ponce though.

Joking aside, although I never would, I can see why people do (hairy legs and Lycra doesn't look good)

I don't shave mine. Veet is what you need. Just spread liberally all up your legs and leave for the required time. Also remember that hair under the the lycra shorts creats drag and to get the best effect you shouldn't stop at the shorts. Keep going up to the navel.

I did last year for an alps trip, looked cool but then suffered with bad hair regrowth rash, that said at the moment the west country seems to be under some kind of bug attack, hairy legs fully of bugs, looks nasty.

    +1 for veet

I'm glad someone has brought this up. I shaved mine for the first time on Wednesday night. Christ, it took me nearly an hour but anyhow...

Legs look much better in my lycra shorts now. The suntan I thought I had has now disappeared...but my legs look a whole lot musclely now and the girlfriend absolutely loves it.

One question to raise though...if you do shave your legs, how far up your leg do you shave? I've heard one of the guys at my club say he's only shaved the visible part of his legs but he's a hairy beast and he must look riddiculous when he takes his shorts off lol.

I have to say its takes some getting used to the feeling of bedsheets and jeans/trousers on your legs. Nice feeling though :)

If you're single just shave one leg and it's like sleeping with a woman.

It's a bit half and half at my club.
The racers do it along with a few non racers.
I don't race but did it because I prefer the look with shorts on and I guess
it kind of makes me feel 'more the part' I guess.

For those who still want to do it...go over your legs with clippers first and then Veet although I've shaved recently and I think I'll give waxing a go! :P

I go quite high up the thigh. On Chasing Legends I think it was Hincapie that stopped just above his shorts line :D

After shaving your legs, why not shave your p*bes into a nice heart shape? If won't make you any faster but your boyfriend will find it a touching gesture.

I shave mine in the summer, I like the whole tribal/ritualistic aspect of it and it certainly looks better when you are in cycling shorts!

My biggest problem is the interaction with the whole tanned/pale dimension.. Shaved, toned legs in cycling shorts look good whether they are tanned or not, but let's be honest, shaved legs in normal shorts might look fine if they are tanned, but pretty awful if they are blue-white... I have fair skin and don't tan very easily, so every year I have this battle with various strengths of suntan lotion in an attempt to get some sort of tan without burning first. If I manage it at all, it is usually only by the end of the summer and it promptly disappears a few weeks later...

Shaven legs (and lycra) may look cool on riders with a right physique.
If you don't have at least a bit of tan, ripped legs and the power output to go with it, you'll look like a twit. Sorry.
Good legs with the mileage written on them always look good, shaven or not.

I shaved mine when I used to race in the 70's, it was virtually compulsory then.

When I came back to riding, I made sure first that I was in reasonable shape, you tan quicker, it's easier to massage your legs after a hard ride, it is a great talking point at the cafe stop when a fit non riding bird keeps looking at them, my wife loves it and when I have crashed (twice in the last couple of years) then no messy wounds.

Also, if you sit on your hand for long enough and make it go to sleep, and then have a herman tank if feels as though someone else is pulling you off.

    HAPPY WANKlNG!

Then do you use your non-numb hand to rub your shaved leg for extra effect?

(Glad I got a GF LOL)
