Crankset Type..?

Hi,

I'm wanting to replace the crappy temporary replacement crankset that my lbs put on my GT, but I'm not sure what fitting to get (square taper or octalink). Does anyone know what fitting I will need?
This is a pic of the same model, not my bike though if it helps at all... Cheers!

If you are willing to replace the BB too (which is pretty much the cheapest component on a crankset), then you can go for whatever you like pretty much.

most cranks come with a BB anyway.

do you know what the current set is - can't see it clearly from the pic - it looks like a suntour square taper?

So perhaps go for a SRAM truvativ isoflow

As long as you get a new bottom bracket (usually included with a new crankset), you can fit any one you like (apart from bb30 or press fit ones which wont fit iirc)

Ive just fitted a hollowtech deore xt chainset to mine.

Deore M590 cranks are amazing value at £65 online, with a BB. I've had some for ages now and they are great.

+1 for M590, they include a BB, far better than square taper/Octalink/Power Spline etc.

Go for the deore cranks. Cheap, tough & BB lasts longer than square taper. I have fitted them to all three of my bikes

awesome, cheers for the replies! yeah it originally was a Suntour crankset, so I guess it is square taper. My BB is on its way out so I guess im going to go with the suggestions and go for Deore and a new bb too, thanks everyone!
