Right, here she is. Not my usual high-end malarkey, but something equally nice (in it’s own way).
2010 Cannondale V-brake 26” (Sixe Medium).
Turned up today, have not had chance to ride it as I have been very busy, but first thing tomorrow I shall take her out for a test-drive.
Overall impressions on the bike are positive, the construction of the SI SAVE frame (disc ready) and Fatty Fork is outstanding and the finish is great, nice to see Cannondale (who are great at making top-drawer Allu frames) are not letting their lower end models suffer. The decals are dark grey and very mute, but when a light is shone on them (such as the flash in the pictures below) they are reflective, and so are the logos on the side of the tyres. Also the inside of the forks are too....
The finishing kit is ‘no frills’ but nicely made. I had a problem with getting the seat post into the seatube, man, even with grease it was a basterd to get in, I could hear it scraping as it went down, should I pull it out, I bet it’s scratched to buggery. That’s really the only negative, I had the same problem before on my Marin Quake, fecked so many seatposts up it was unreal, but it’s in, I won’t need to keep taking it in and out, and it’s got a shedload of Teflon grease there.
Componentry wise, nothing ‘breathtaking’ but good quality, sturdy workhorse Alivio. Now this is not an MTB, it’s a Hybrid, so I’m not going to start putting SLX/XT all over this bike, the Alivio rear mech and shifters (it’s an Acera front mech, but it does what it’s supposed to do) will do the job nicely as an 8 speed set up.
The V-brakes are standard Matte Black Tektro, with Cannondale levers. Nicely constructed, and if set up correctly they are as good as any other so until the break, I shall not be ‘upgrading’ these. It’s more in the pads and (again) set-up on Vs more than anything else.
Wheels are a front Formula hub, Shimano rear and cannondale ‘Deep V’ rims which are really nice, if basic.
However (Yes, you knew there would be something) the chain set is crap, cheap feeling and looks like it cost £3 to make (they had to save money somewhere) so I ordered a Shimano Alivio Square Taper chain set today which looks better, is better made and should last a long while (my old one last years with quite a few good miles put in on it) – all for £26.99!!!!
That’s the only change I am making, apart from the pedals which are crap as well so am looking at a decent Wellgo alternative at the moment. Nothing too fancy.
Black chain with powerlink, and a black cassette finishes off the stealth look.
Anyway, here’s the pictures.

Looks great! I usually think that hybrids look wrong somehow, but Cannondale have done a good job on the Bad Boy. What are you going to use it for mainly?0

urban riding (not park or jump etc - im 37 LOL), day to day riding and commuting.
Where they have succeeded is that the frame and forks are MTB designed, so it looks like a mountain bike, well in essence it is.
I picked it up for £440 as it's an '10, but I think they were usually £550.
The frame and forks are immensly upgradeable, so as and when parts wear out I shall upgrade .... slowly!!!0 -
Thats really nice Bet you're a bit more comfortable leaving that locked up outside the shops than the S Works Carbon Exotic forks for 80 quid ?0
