404 has lower drag than 303

so the faster you go, the bigger the difference in power needed between the two wheels

zipp claims a 3w advantage for the 404 vs. the 303 at a speed of 48km/hr, or an 8 second time difference over 40km distance (it's all in the zipp catalogue)

the price you pay, other than money, is more weight and more surface area for crosswinds to catch

if you aren't going so fast then the power difference gers smaller
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • Used to have a pair of 404's, good strong wheels.....bit of a drag uphills and boy, do they get caught by crosswinds, especially if you also have a chunky front fork
Summer - Dolan Tuono with Sram Force and Dura-Ace 7850 CL Carbon wheels
Winter - old faithful Ribble winter bike
