new shock advice needed, trance x5

Hi
I own a Giant Trance X5 from 2009 and am looking to replace the woeful standard rear shock with something a bit better, budget up to £200 however would love to spend less if possible
Main confusion point is what size do I need, its a 120mm travel bike but do you measure the eye to eye on the shock or what?
I tend to ride on the adventurous side of trail riding and occasionally some light downhill (fort bill red and inners for example) if this helps
Thoughts and links appreciated

cheers, will take a look, might just stump up the extra cash and go to my LBS to be on the safe side but trying to do as much as I can myself0

Trance x have a non standard measurement 7.25" x 1.75" so can be hard to find an off the shelf replament0
