hi all, iv been looking around at countless reviews and i still cant decide what bike to buy. I want a bike thats suitable for trails and single track, but also that can take up a few dirt jumps and downhill. I need a bike that can do everything pretty much lol and can be pushed a fair amount. I know my 1000 budget limits the choices but im struggling, could anyone help me decide, what bike do you ride and how do you ride them? the santa cruz chameleon looks pretty cool and iv heard good stuff about that any ideas? any advice is really helpfull thanks

looks like a decent enough bike, this may seem silly but i dont like the look of that frame lol could that bike handle a fair amount of abuse? i aim on keeping the bike for as long as possible so withstanding abuse is vital to me. is there anything on the market that sorta has a dirt jump frame but suitable for downhill? as u have probably guessed i dont know much about bikes lol0

How hard will you be hitting the downhills is drops and jumps size? Are you a smooth rider or need that extra strength and weight?0

iv hit a few downhill drops and some dirt jumps and i take everything at some decent speed and hit the jumps hard. the thing is i tend to push myself quite hard and go bigger then bail and bend my bike cos its a 500 quid thing lol. im no pro but also plan on keeping it for a long time im only gonna get better and go bigger so....0

Yeah that looks pretty kool and reviews say its a strong bike, its definitely an option pal thanks for your time. i love the look of the jump bikes but i wont be doing dirt jumps enough to make good use of one and when it comes to downhill it wont be the most suitable. What about the norco big foot?0

It's a tough bike, but very jump oriented. May be better at DH with stronger wheels or longer fork, unless you are smooth.0

Would this be suitable at all? its very local to me so will be easy to just pick up and ride, havent heard of cube and cant find any reviews of this bike?0 -
Not suitable in the slightest lol, is an XC bike!0

haha okay, should i avoid xc bikes like the plague then? theres a kona stinky for sale near me for 850, thats a good price but its not that suitable for the dirt jumps abit big en heavy. Would a dirt jump bike with stronger wheels and forks be an ideal choice? just pricey0

Dirt Jump bikes work best doing just that, and you may find hard going for steep DH tracks. Likewise, a DH bike will feel cumbersome down at the jump track. XC bikes you'll probably kill!
A compromise is a long forked, tough hardtail. Unfortunately not that many under 1000 quid. The Summer Season will do the job, but may want to look ata custom build ie an NS Surge frame, RS Domain forks, then good budget finishing kit.0 -
okay dude cheers, yeah the 1000 budget may need to be extended, i have the money its just a lot of money to spend. Just checked out the cove - stiffee and the reviews say its perfect for everything, think they might sell it at the bike shop down the road en all. would that be an option?0

It's a highly regarded frame, but does push the price up. I'd be inclined to spend more of the budget on the fork. Have a look at this:

yeah thats a great deal ! What about forks and brakes, any recommendations? Im guessing by building a bike up and buying parts separately will cost a fair bit more than usual. what about the cove handjob but with the stiffee frame?0

The Lyrik would be my fork choice as in the link above. Brakes, Shimano Deore are great value and won our recent test at WMB:

Just add rotors of your choice.0 -

Mark Anthony. If you can go in and collect fine. But have a read
