Strange creaking wheel

My rear wheel has an odd creak, I thought it might be loose spokes but they feel ok. When I turn right it makes no noise but when I turn left there is a regular creaking as the wheel turns.
I have swapped the wheel & the noise went away so it's definitely the wheel
Any ideas? :?

When this happened to my front wheel it was down to loose cones. Have you checked for any wobble across the axle?

    Swingarm bearings?
Brace the frame using your knee or shoulder, and try and flex the frame uwing your bodyweight. You do kind of need the strength of a bear to do it though. But, you should be able to apply flex to various parts of the suspension system and dtermine if any of them are creaking under load.
