Hiya,

I just got a pair of tubeless ready (not UST) Nobby Nic Evo Snakeskin's, the 2011 ones, but I can't get the bloody things inflated on my Stan's Flow rims. They simply will not take on air.

Before I try every suggestion I've so far managed to find on Google, does anyone have any specific tried and tested methods for this wheel/tyre combination?

To clarify, I've not yet tried putting in any sealant, but I have tried inflating with a tube first to seal one side of the bead, still no joy. My bontrager XR4's inflated first time without any fuss, I don't understand why these are so tricky.

Cheers
Russ

I'm assuming you have yellow tape on?

Can you get access to a compressor? If not try to pull the bead to the edge of the rim all around the wheel. Keep the wheel suspended off the ground (so the bead isn't pushed away) and then try inflating.
  • Yes the yellow tape is on. I don't think there's a compressor nearby. I currently have them inflated with tubes, someone said they left them overnight and tried again the next day and it worked fine.

    I'll report back.
  • i've not had any problems inflating 2011 nobby nics onto flow rims. in fact i managed to blow one up tubless with a hand pump it was that easy.

try using lots of soapy water, really go to town with a sponge and get it properly soaking, particularly the bead of the tyre and the bead hook on the inside of the rim. and make sure that the tyre beads are either side of the valve. Sounds dumb i know, but i've had tyres that want to sit with both beads on one side of the valve.

does the valve your using have a removable core? if it does then take it out, it will get air into the tyre alot quicker.

also try putting the wheel back into the frame (upside down) before inflating it so there isn't any preasure on a particular part of the tyre.
  • Hi,

Here's the solution that worked for me:
1 ) Pump up the tyre with a inner tube in, leave overnight. 2 ) Let the tyre down and carefully dislodge the bead from one side, leaving the other side sealed. 3 ) Carefully remove the inner tube. 4 ) Insert your tubeless valve and remove the core. 5 ) Carefully push the bead back into the rim. (it doesn't need to lock in, just let it sit wherever it sits) 6 ) Pump up the tyre again, the bead should lock in. Leave it inflated for 10 minutes. 7 ) Deflate the tyre and put sealant in via coreless valve. 8 ) Put valve core back in, inflate tyre. 9 ) Shake/Turn/Roll wheel to allow sealant to do its job. 10 ) Ride for 10 mins, done!

    Cheers
