How accurate is elevation on Garmin GPS/Garmin Connect?

    The "corrected" version doesn't look too far off. The scale is very different which "flattens" the profile but you start at +/- 440m and finish at +/- 570m in both.

    Be better to compare them on the same scaled Y-axis

    but look at the ascent/descent numbers...no way do I climb over 500m!!

    Here's a rescaled Garmin Connect with correction.

    I'm not disputing that it looks right and that the start and finish altitudes are correct, it's the reported cumalative height gain/loss of +529 m/-388 m when the 'real' values average out around +200 m/-70 m.

    Anyone using corrected values could be doing far less climbing than they think. (Admittedly the sample size of one ride is hardly statistical proof!)

    And throughout the year, there's a lot less varition in the length of the ride (less than 0.5%) than in the amount climbed!

    (edit) I think I should add that that between about 14 and 22 km, the ride really is completely flat. The spikes in the corrected data in this region are causing the huge errors.
