Looks like won't be getting down to Gisburn tonight so thought would head over to my local ride spot at Rivington... been up there lots of times to the barns for Motorbike stuff but never headed off on the MTB ...

Are the cycle paths marked or anything? - Can anyone give me some pointers where to go from either barn?

Cycle paths aren't marked... Just stick to the Bridleways.

My explanation does need a bit of knowledge of the area, but I've dug out a route I recorded in the link below...

Starting from the top barn I take the path up the left side of it, through the gate.
At a point further up this bares right, but I go left on to the path which leads back to the road to the other car parks.

From here there is the Land Rover trail to the left, steep and rocky... Or the bridleway to the ride which is a steady incline up. After a while that route switches back and brings you out in the gardens... From there I head towards the pigeon tower and switch back on to the trail that is marked Belmont Road.... Follow this down to the locked toilet block and you'll see the route right to the top of the Pike. (There is a rideable route that loops round the back, don't need to carry the bike up the steps)

I recorded this route when I made my first trip up there after a few years... it gets a bit confused when I explored a little but the general route to the top of the Pike is there.

I came down via Roynton Road on the map above.

To be honest, you can't go too far wrong as long as you're heading in the general direction of the Pike... The area as a whole benefits from exploration.

    Many thanks :D

You reckon it is do-able in a couple hours?

Someone mentioned Healy Neath worth a look?

We used to rattle round in a couple of hours when I was a few years younger and a few stone lighter.

I've swung by the Nab a couple of times since I returned to the bike, it is worth a visit but can be a bit awkward to get too. There's a couple of routes online that link it in actually... The good folks at Woolybacks put this one together

Healy Nab being at the top left.
I found the red there harder work than the black at Llandegla, but it is only short.
