So, 456 with 2x10
Rear derailleur, X9 10 Speed, do I go for a long, medium or short cage length?

    go ask in the Tech section and give more info. or work out your range and see what the mechs can cover.

    medium would be fine. Or long, but not short

    edit: and as nick said, check the range.

    i thought you only needed long if you were running the big ring ie 3x9????

    2X10 can be 26-39, 28-42, 30-45 of the shelf Sram. or 26-39, 28-42 different Sram

    Or could be any combo the mad man has put together.

    cassette 11-36? or 11-32

    so yes a long could be needed for a 2X10 or a medium it as normal come down to range.

    My advice ditch the SRAM and go shimano

    Well, the cassette will be 11-36 with the my FSA MegExo chainrings changed from standard 32/22 to 36/24 respectively.
    That should suit me for most riding.

    The reason I asked in the Crudpool is that I trust the advice I'll receive here with the exception of the Marx Bros. worthy suggestion of Shimano from Gazlar :shock:
