Crunching from bottom bracket help!

Hi

A friend of mine got a new bike last week, after 3 rides the bb has a crunching feeling / noise when peddling. Anyone know what this might be?

    time to take it back to the shop.

    dont touch it.

    it could be anything. poor set up or failed bearings.

    Thanks for the reply. It is going back this weekend, just wondered what the possible causes might be and I think setup might be the reason. The bike also suffers from a creaking almost cracking noise from either the frame or fork when you push it forward whilst the brakes are on and the front derailleur is so far out after 3 short rides he can't shift onto the big ring
