Right...I'm getting a bit fed up of cycle computers at the moment. Had a Garmin 301 and the heart rate strap keeps going wrong, had 2 polar computers one 200cad and one cs300 and i hate the fact that i have to send them away to have new batteries fitted!!

So i'm looking for a decent wireless computer (as its going to be used on two bikes) that must have a heart rate strap. Not too bothered about cost as i want to get something that works and i do fairly decent milage and like to do GOOD miles.

Any feedback from people would be great.

Thanks in advance

If you want something small, the Garmin 310XT is great. I personally like the fact that it's waterproof rather than resistant, as well as the very long battery life.

Note that the 'premium HR' from Garmin is a huge step from the previous one I had with my 301. There is no fiddling about with wetting the sensor contacts, positioning the strap etc, it just works as soon as it is attached (and keeps working). I also don't get those odd 220bpm readings while jogging (and still being able to talk lol) like with the 301. Battery life also seems better.

The 305 is a similar size, but not fully waterproof and battery life isn't as good. The Edge range might also be an option depending on what features you want.

Not sure if they still make the older strap, but my HR strap fiddling days ended as soon as I got the premium trap that came with the 310XT (and use this strap with my both 310XT and Edge 705).

    Hope this helps.

  • I recently bought a Cateye V3. Does it all: speed, cadence & HR, and is wireless.

    Only criticisms so far are:

    1) it's on the small side, so the display size may no be good for everyone
    2) the backlight is very brief

Positives: HR strap is v comfortable, single wireless pickup/transmitter unit on non-drive side chain stay is v neat.
