Hi,

After two years of winter racing my headset is creaking like my knees. Time for a replacement.

i have a Stumpy FSR 2010 Comp and it has the original headset in it which is described in the spec as:

Campy style cartridge bearings for integrated alloy Head tube

Having done a number of google searches I can find various types of headsets but am really not sure what sort of thing I should be looking for and an example/recommendation. Can anybody help??

Thx
Ian

The bearings should have a reference number. Find a bearing supplier - lots online and cheap.

    as above...bearing number....order online...

    For info though.....

its an integrated headset....that uses a funny design to accept Campagnolo style bearings...the bearing cart is a bit different to the IS standard integrated headsets...

  • Is it the 1.125 upper, 1.5 lower headset? The manual here says that it is:

    http://service.specialized.com/collateral/ownersguide/english-new/assets/pdf/FSR---2011-Safire-FSR-Manual.pdf

This would make it 45 degree tapered headset bearings which are the following:

    http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=61&products_id=439

    and

    http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=61&products_id=438

Obviously, don't take what I have said as gospel, look at what is written on the bearings and replace like for like, because I may be very wrong, and it might be a straight headset! 8)

mate...thats not even a stumpjumper....its a safire! not the same bike.

on the specialized site, it doesn't list the bearing sizes for the 2010 sj fsr....

but for the 2011 model it does say 1-1/8" upper and lower campy style...

    http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/bc/SBC ... e=Mountain

it would be easy to tell if its a tapered steerer or not....my feeling is...not..

again...bearing ref number from side of cartridge....order online.

    done.

    Thanks for teh responses.

I had the bearings out again this evening and they have the following numeric engraved on the side of each:

    41.8x6.5x45

I assume this is some kind of measurement but not sure exactly what!

    yip...its a measurement...

    outer diameter (41.8mm) x width/height/breadth(6.5mm) x chamfer(45degrees)...

i am pretty sure you want bearing MH-P08...but check with your local specialized service centre to be sure...

Yep, it's the MH-P08 - I've got a 2010 Stumpjumper FSR Elite with a Cane Creek headset and recently been looking at replacement headset/bearings. It took a while to know exactly what was required....

In the end Specialized customer services sent me some replacement bearings FOC...... After sending me a replacement headset which didn't fit properly, again FOC though.
