I have a standard road bike 2 x 9 speed but want something
temporarily easier for an upcoming sportive.
Is it possible to just get a different cassette fitted and if so what size?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Campag? If so, I have fitted 13-28 Veloce onto both of my Campag bikes with standard double (52/39) 9 spd chainsets. Just needed an extra link back in the chain because I went from 12-23 but I had some cutoff spare.
Same should apply for Shimano but I am not sure of the 9 speed options there.
Cassettes are a doddle to fit and need minimum tools (chain whip, spanner and small chainlock connector). I suggest tightening well as I erred on the side of caution first time around and it came undone mid ride (no real fuss, tightened by hand and made it back OK).
What cassette/chainset are you running at the mo??0 -

We need more details of your present gearing. We need:
manufacturer: ie Shimano, SRAM...
Front chainrings: 50/34 or 53/39....
Rear cassette: 12-25CAAD9

If Shimano, and seeing as it's 9 speed, just fit an MTB rear mech & 11-32 cassette. The gaps between gears will probably do your nut in a bit but you can't beat it for spinning up those steep climbs.0

I'm a very average cyclist and I'm not built like a mountain goat being 13.5 stone, 34 x 27 hasn't failed me yet.
If you run Shimano, 12 x 27 should be ok. Ultegra 6500 Road Cassette (9-Speed)._________________________________________________
