About to buy a Thule bike carrier and I'm looking at the 591 ProRide or 561 Outride. Not sure which would be best. Has anybody got any opinions on the merits of either to help me decide?

I notice Thule say the 561 is best for Carbon bikes, but it does mean that the front wheel has to live in the car.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a 561 as two of my bikes are carbon. The other type that clamps around the frame would probably be fine also IMO as long as you remember that its not a clamp really just a means of holding the bike upright and not tighten it up too much!
I thought why even risk it TBH and got the 561, yes the front wheel goes in the boot but not a problem as I usually have gear in there cycling shoes etc as well. Overall am very pleased with it, well made bit of kit.
    Got it from http://www.skidrive.co.uk/cycle/product ... tno=561000
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.
  • I agree with ^^^^^^^

I had a set of 591's until recently when I swapped to a tow bar setup for various reasons

I carried everything from a full suss MTB to kids bikes via my (non carbon) road bike on the 591 securely, I can see where the carbon fear comes from with the jaws however I never really tightened them, the bikes are secured by the wheel straps which seem to take most of the strain and wind force as far as I can see

This is from http://www.roofbox.co.uk about the 561:-

"Not suitable for bikes with carbon forks and dropouts, only suitable if you have metal drop outs."

From what I've read elsewhere, a lot of strain is put on the fork ends.

can't you buy a wheel holder if you're worried about putting themin your car?

Only applies if the dropouts are carbon, carbon forks with metels drops outs are fine.

See first half of the the Thule video attaching carbon forks:-
