How to fix squeakiness?

If the road is a bit bumpy, there are some annoying squeaky noises coming from the seat / seatpost area (no sniggering at the back, please)

Should I apply some grease to the seatpost where it enters the frame? Or the seat itself? Any other ideas as to what the squeakiness can come from?

What make bike do you ride? Is there a seatpost shim?

This can be the seat rails flexing, so strip them out, clean, maybe a light lube, and reassemble.

PS I'm not a mechanic, but that's what I'd do.

It's a Ridley X-Fire cyclocross bike with a carbon frame. It has an EA70 SEATPOST and EA70 STEM but no shim.

So far I've only used it on the road.. Now with 23 mm slick tires. Works a treat!

    try this...

stand to the left of the bike, hold the seatpost with the right hand, hold the head tube with the left

pull/push the seat post back/forwards *hard*, really hard, if there's no noise then you've elimated one source, if there is a noise and you've got the clamp as tight as allowed (stay within the torque limit), remove the post, clean it and the tube, put some assembly paste on it, replace, tighten clamp, see if it is ok

if it's the saddle/rails, check the saddle clamp is tight, if it is gbut still squeaks, then remove saddle, clean everything, re-assemble (you can also use a bit of assembly paste on the various contact points)

sometimes it can be the saddle itself, where the rails join the saddle, in this case some people put some spray lube at the join and it can help

Keeping the seatpost and downtube clamp area clean and free from grit is just something you have to do every now and again to avoid creaks appearing, likewise the bar/stem clamp area, i used to have an annoying creak every time i got out of the saddle, greasing the stem clamp bolts cured that one.
