Rear Wheel annoying clicking noise!!

Hey,
I've picked up an annoying clicking / ticking noise coming from my rear wheel.
I couldn't locate the source but on removing the wheel and spinning it freely I've found it comes from the axle itself.
My bike (Cube LTD Team 2011) was new in December and has only done about 250 miles. I've cleaned it down after every muddy trail but I cannot see what is causing this ticking sound.
Is it possible its just a bit of dirt lodged in there? If so, how do I remove it to check it?
Does anyone have any ideas??
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks!

It's not just the freewheel that's got louder is it?0

Does it only click when freewheeling or all the time?I don't do smileys.

rear wheel bearings....
with the wheel on the bike is there any play from side to side ?
remove the wheel from bike can you move the axle up and down or slide it from side to side ?
if so you might want to get the cone bearing serviced.
my ritchey rear wheel on lasted 3mth before i had to adjust the cone bearings.
have a look at the link

Hi all,
No, its not the freewheel noise you can hear it seperate to this.
It happens all the time not just when freewheeling, you can hear it clearer when you're pedalling since there is no freewheel noise.
There is no play in the back wheel at all, its solid!
I'm at a complete loss, it doesn't affect performance its just annoying!!0 -
Have you checked the spring clip keeping your pads apart, it may be bent and catching on the rotor, or your pads may be worn and part of one is standing proud of the pad.0

Could it be a speed sensor catching on the seatstays as the wheel turns, that was what was happening to mine, took me about a week to figure out what it was.“Don’t buy upgrades, ride up grades.”

Or a ding on your rotor catching the pads - check they are smooth with no burrs,Vitus Sentier VR+ (2018) GT Grade AL 105 (2016)

Its definately coming from the axel rotating as the sound is clear when I remove the wheel and spin the axel.
Its a very faint ticking noise when the wheel is removed but with the wheel on the bike the noise is amplified as vibrates against the frame! Very annoying!!
Can the axel be easily removed and cleaned??
