I have been using a garmin edge 500 now for over 12 mths on my road bike and now more recently on my mtb. During a ride yesterday at Cannock Chase along the Monkey trail my Garmin decided to part company with my bike  . after then riding on for another couple of minutes of singletrack(nothing to knarly as this is on the Monkey trail remember) i realised it had gone, so stopped and walked back along the trail. A few more riders passed me along the way i finally seen it right in the middle of the track!!!! . Anyway it now has a smashed screen due to riders riding over it or from the fall itself not sure.

When i got back to the bike to clip it back in i then realised that the clip on the back of the garmin had broke, then i realised it had broke in the mount on the stem.....now is that a fault in the clip!!! see images below.

Now you see the little white piece in the mount that is meant to be on the headunit itself!!! so it has broke in situ.

What i want to know is do i have a case with Garmin!!! or am i banging my head against a brick wall!!! what are Garmin like to deal with???

    Read your warranty.
IMO electronic equipment and trails don't go.

After a quick google and a read of the Garmin forum this is a Fault with the unit and Garmin replace, will drop into my Lbs and see what they can do for me. Its a little worrying that the Edge 800 uses the same mount  wouldn't be happy with that hitting the deck

  • They may honour a warranty of some sorts for this, but I have a feeling they will try to weasel their way out of it.

Also, people use the ? symbol at the end of a question, and not a !!!

the damage is consequential, which is unlikely to be covered. In other words their liability is to replace the deflective clip.

I use the older Edge 305 and have never had a problem with the clip, but on certain stems you have to be careful that the angle does not stress the mount when fixed.

    worth a try though.

    Hi,

Just boxed it back up and dropped it back to my lbs(Red Kite Cycles) in Shirley, Solihull and they have returned it to madison for a refund and have ordered me a brand new one and in black this time  .

Top notch service, now if thats not a good reason to support your lbs shop then i don't know what is.

  • Sounds like a win! It's amazing how much better LBS's are than online shops at helping situations when something goes wrong.
