I anyone cares, Andrea Guardini won a great sprint in stage one today. He looked low and fast! Alan Davis started the sprint way to early!

The Farnesse Vini bikes are very sexy too.

That boy has some serious speed.

I agree those bikes are kickass. The one Visconti rides is unreal.

Why is the stage finishing so early? I know they are 2hrs ahead.

Guardini was tipped as the best young sprinter coming up- fantastic win for him, I'm sure it'll be the first of many.

Anyone got a link to what happened in the final metre? A punch-up?

Looks like the fdj rider - bouhini? - tried to force his way where there's no space and petacchi had to sit up. Same guy nearly put farrar in the barriers about 3 secs before. Scrappy.

Interesting that guardini gets so low - Learning from Cav? Could be a fun head to head at the giro...

Guardini reminds me a lot of Cav, right down to the distance he puts into Farrar, in the final 50 metres.......................without the use of the world's greatest train.
    The lad is seriously quick.

He's not down to ride the Giro, btw.

yet. apparently he'll get a start if he wins another stage at Turkey... I'd say that's relatively likely if he carries on like that!

I just read that, too. Clearly the provisional start list is just that.
Not sure what LS means with this quote, though.

"Lightning" Guardini not only looks like Cav in the sprints, he looks like him on the climbs, too.

Great win by Petacchi in the tough uphill sprint on stage 4. Gilbert would have been happy with that one.

I hate sounding like a pedant, but it's red now isn't it? Or have they changed it back?

Aye just finished watching that, no radios, lost the breakaway, gave up :( Is this the future of cycling without radios? it's not very exciting.

Is that really down to the lack of radios? The peleton had a blackboard and the cars knew the distance to the break, the riders go back often enough for a bottle.

Griepel takes the win (no top sprinters in top ten). No GC change.

Probably more to do with the make-up of the teams rather than the lack of radios. The peloton in this race is a big mix of young, inexperienced riders and smaller continental teams who don't have the strength to control the race.

It happens fairly often in smaller stage-races that the breakaway gets one rider from each team and are allowed to get a huge gap. I remember it happening in the first edition of the Tour of Britain.

Must admit, the TV coverage of this race has been amazing. Like you say, the stuff from the motos has been good, and the helicopter shots are absolutely stunning. It puts some of the Spanish and the Italian races to shame.

It happened at least twice last year!.....Stage 2 the break of 10 or so came past me with 60km to go and a four minute gap.......they had 10 minutes by the end of the day! A few days later and the police had to re open roads inbetween the break and the bunch who'd really given up at this point, and were about 35 minutes down!

Then again didn't half the peloton gain over ten minutes on the other half at the Giro last year?
