grinding in crank area

I have just put a new chain on my cube ltd hardtail,and consequently had to replace the cassette.I am now getting a grinding feeling coming from the crank area.Is this because I have not replaced the chain ring as well?

    chain routed correctly?

    what is the full drive train set up?

    dont know about that,didnt actually fit it myself,but the drivetrain is deore hg-50 cassette,shimano octolink crank+chainring and shimano hg73 chain.seems to be happening in the main gears i use where the old cassette was supposedly worn out(the lower few cogs).
