I put my name down on the cancellations list and was expecting to hear nothing. However today I got an email to say a space has become free :)

I have signed up for the 100k ride as I don't think I'll be up to 100m by the end of June. I seem to struggle with time to put the hours in needed for longer rides. This will be the first proper cycle event I have done so am looking forward to it.

I have been cycling on and off for some years but still consider myself to be a relative newbie as I am not as commited as many people on here. So any other beginners entering the 2011 Dartmoor Classic??? :D

I've entered the DC. Doing the 100 mile route and it will be my second sportive of 2011.. Reputed to be one the best sportives in country.

Like many of us work, kids etc get in the way of training. If it helps I try to do 3 sessions a week if possible with one being a 3 / 4 hour long steady ride. I'm struggling to keep to this as I'm working as a postie 4 days a week covering 8 to 10 miles on foot so pretty knackered by the end of the day.

Yeah I will have to get up earlier or something I guess. I do cycle to work most days which will help but it is only 8 miles each way. I will have to try and extend the normal route I take make my commute longer a couple of times a week. Don't want to be too knackered at work though  The longest ride I have done to date is about 40 miles.

Have you done a 100 miler before or will this be your first? Is the other sportive you are doing in the SW as well?
  • Hi JST,

I'm glad to hear you got in from the waiting list as I've also got my name down. I just wondered when you put your name on the list I put mine down on 7th April but haven't heard anything yet, it would be good to know when you put your name down as it might give me some idea how much further down the list I am.

I'm in a similar position to you I'd like to do the 100 miler but I think (if i get a place) I'll be happy to complete 100km. I'm also completing 40 mile training rides reasonably comfortably (once per week) at the moment but I find it hard to find the time to do anything longer.

If you fancy hooking up for some rides PM me - I'm in Newton Abbot. I usually try to get my longer rides in early on a sunday morning, but I can be flexible.

Hi, To be honest I'm not sure how long ago it was, it may even have been as early as February but can't be sure :? Good luck with getting a place anyway.

What sort of time do you normaly head out on a Sunday? Sometimes I have to work Sundays but normally start late if I do. I'm in Kingsteignton so not far from Newton...
  • I normally head out at 6:30 on Sundays but hoping to do more evenings as the days get longer. I've PM'd you with a bit more info...

Did most of the route yesterday - do you mean the part from Holne Chase (by the river) and the hill up from there? It is steep! I was standing in my lowest (39 x 26) gear but fortunately it does not last too long. There are a lot of hills following that also, most of the way to Princetown....

I've got in through the waiting list also. Relatively new to cycling longer distances so this should be an eye-opener!

Live in Exeter if anyone need someone to wheeze behind them and make them look good.

Well done on getting a place. I got a news letter through the other day from them which said there was around 300 people still on the waiting list.

I live near Newton Abbot so probably a bit far to meet for rides but I'm sure I've noticed a few people with Exeter as their location who post on here. Definately worth a trip to the moor to get some practice in on the hills :)

I'm taking the place of a friend who can't take part. Am I right in thinking I just need to fill in the Transfer form on the website to get his place put in my name?

i'm not sure as I haven't had to do that but it sounds right. I believe there is a deadline date after which no more can be transfered.

Yeah it's the end of this month. See you there! I presume you'll have 'JST' integrated into your kit somehow.

yep I also got a place having been on the waiting list. The 100 miles for me. This will be my first sportive and longest ride to date is 70 miles at some speed on my first outing with CS Dynamo in Exmouth. A younger more experienced rider dragged me up to Tiverton, Dunkerswell, Honiton and back to Exmouth. Good fun, but exhausting, so I am not so daunted by the 100.
    Looking forward to Dartmoor!
