Best 700x25c Tyre for comfort...

Firstly - I tried the search & found many posts with "...suggest you search for tyre threads..." rather than much actual advice for this!

So...Cyclescheme voucher just arrived so new bike about to be ordered. :D
Ribble Gran Fondo will be winging it's way to me in <insert uncomfortably long time here> weeks!

But - Key factor is comfort & puncture resistance as this will be my "daily-driver". I like going fast & want to go faster, but out & out speed is definitely down the list. As a result, I intend on retiring the 23mm stock tyres available in the special edition bike builder before I even use them & replace with 25mm rubber.

I currently have 28mm Durano S on my current bike. I ride about 2500miles per year, mostly commuting & sprints out at lunchtimes on average roads. Currently about 14stone.

Read about GP4000, 4Seasons & gatorskins in 25mm & they sound like the kind of tyres I should be looking at.

Reccomendations appreciated.

(note - if Ribble do them, like the gatorskins, then thats even better - will add to my order).

Thanks

Michelin Krylion Carbons 25C is all I use in winter, wonderful, or you could try Vittoria open pave 24s, very good reputation also.

For 'comfort' then it would be a Vittoria Open CX in 25mm but don't expect it to be very durable - certainly more lively than a Durano which feel a little 'dead' IME. You can get ProRace 3s in 25mm too but Krylions are a good compromise - a bit more performance oriented than Duranos, but more durable than a 'race' tyre. Vredestein used to a Fortezza in 25mm which was a great tyre - no longer available
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

The standard tyres are terrible - not for grip but for immoveability post flat. I ended up (I assume it was me) pocking a hole in the sidewall of one whilst trying to get it on or off.

I have no such bother with Schwalbe tyres - they are fine on Campag wheels. Currently got 25mm Duranos on my GranFondo (fitted to Vento Reactions). Might get some Durano pluses at some point.

Note though - if you are running it through winter and want to use Crud Racers, you definitely need 23mm tyres for then.
    Faster than a tent.......

Both the Continental tyres you listed are excellent choices, with the 4000s being the faster rolling of the two. You could easily run both all year round, but teh 4 seasons should be a little more robust.

I've been riding the 4000's for a couple of years now and still no punctures, I'm glad to report.

Just put Gatorskin 25mms on the commuter/trainer and very impressed with the smoothness of the ride-gives real confidence on bad roads so +1 from me
Whats the solution? Just pedal faster you baby.

I've got 25mm Bontrager Hardcase Race Lite on my summer commuting bike

They are quite heavy, but reasonably fast and grippy, They are extremely cheap, I got a pair for 20 quid+p&p from Bike+

My all time favourite 25mm tyre is the Michelin Pro Race 2. But these aren't available any more. The Pro3 are grippier but not as durable

Cool - many thanks for responses.

I notice I can get 2 x 700x25c Michelin Krylion Carbon's for £42 on fleabay. Will have a look around for the others in prep for the new steed.
