Road bike storage dilemma

I live in uni accommodation and they are being incredibly arsey about how I store my road bike. Apparently, it has to be in stored in a "completely zippable" bag- since I have to take the front wheel off in order to fit up a spiral staircase, this will in practice mean two separate bags, one for the front wheel and one for the frame/back wheel.

Has anyone got any brilliant ideas about cheap ways to do this? Particularly as I don't want oil etc. from the drivetrain to get on the bag and sh*t up the rest of the bike

It doesn't have to be a proper bike bag so get a fellow student with access to a sewing machine to knock you up a bag with a zip on it.

It'll probably only cost you a few quid!

'A fellow student with access to a sewing machine'? Do such things exist? :D

Seriously though, I'm putting loads of effort into setting up a college cycling squad, 'widening participation' (and all the other PC buzzwords you can think of), and it p1sses me off the absolute lack of leeway they are willing to give cyclists. Seriously, they first told me to put a £1k bike in the the bike sheds?!?!

    Tough titty.

Just imagine the hassle that would be caused if every cycling student decided they wanted to store their bike in halls regardless of value. Why should your £1k bike get any better treatment that someones £60 2nd special?

If you want to look after it do as they require or move out.

Is there not a fashion course or some other such nonsense at your uni?

Just take a look about next time you're on campus. Surely you'll be able to pick out the one's who've made their own clothes

It's no hassle: the bike currently lives on a waterproof tarp, and to use it I take the wheels off, and carry the frame, then wheels, down the stairs. No damage to the room, stairs, whatever. Considering that I represent the college at cycling, one might have hoped that they'd realise that all this hassle to make an entirely cosmetic change in how the bike is stored isn't particularly worthwhile.

Cracking idea, I'll nip to Argos in the morning.
