Removing canti bosses?

Good idea :D or Bad idea

I've started to refurb my tired SantaCruz Chameleon frame as a long term project build.
(Dont worry I CBA with a WIP thread :P ).
the paintwork was in a sorry state so I have rubbed down all of the paintwork and primed it ready to rub down all of the imperfections/scratches/gouges and I got thinking 'do I really need canti bosses'?

What are the implications of removing the bosses? Presumably they are just welded onto the seatstays (not 'lugged' into the frame).
Can I just grind them off?
Will it affect the structural support from the seatstay?

Any thoughts or advice from anybody with experience of doing this would be greatly appreciated

well the bosses screw into the mounts.

it does depend a bit on what your mounts are like.

    pics would be good.

Ahh, rite, OK thanks Nic. Its the mounts that i need to remove then, my bad (terminology). I have unscrewed the bosses, but want to remove the mounts.
I'll try and get a pic up in the morning.

Thanks, were there any lugs in your frame for the mounts, or just welds that needed grinding off?

I removed them on my Bianchi MUTT aluminium frame; hacksaw the bulk off then used an agnle grinder, hand file and dremel sanding disc to smooth down.
