Watched it last night. Big flop again from Roman Kreuziger, beaten by Diddy Dom Pozzovivo 'n all.
Talking of titches. Jose Rujano over a minute down, so that Giro hot form is coming along nicely.
Have to say it, Kloden looks the business on a TT bike.
I see that the CN write up managed to drop in: "his rich vein of form" line.

    Stage 2 doesn't dissapoint.

Voeckler attacks on the final climb, 7km from the line. Scarponi bridges. The two work together and Voeckler takes the win (6th this year!)

“30km from the finish, I went up to Voeckler and said ‘you’ll win today.’ He thought I was joking, but I was convinced,” Scarponi said. “So, knowing that he would win, I looked to respond to his attack. I knew that the final 5km were flat, so a small advantage on the climb was going to be enough to hold on to the finish.”
The 2nd group was about 26 secs back and Kloden wasn't in it.

Scarponi and Voeckler making racing exciting to watch this year.

That "rolling" stage finished with a 10 km climb. Although the average gradient wasn't steep, the centre section was pretty testing.
For once, Kloden was an early peloton casualty. First up the road was Charlie Wegelius, who caught the last man from the break of the day.
Then off went Tommy V, resplendent in the white jersey as leader of the PC circuit. He was looking formidable, until Michele Fer..........sorry, Scarponi powered across the gap with absolute easy. The rest fumbled the ball.
For the remainder of the climb, Tommy V hung on for grim death, before taking a few pulls so as to take the stage uncontested.

Nice interview. First win in Italy this year, lovely Giro, had a look at the stage parcours and decided to go for it, etc.
For his troubles, they dressed him up as a red and green boy scout on the podium.

Nibali was hanging on the back and got dropped half way up the final climb. However, he looked as if he wasn't going anywhere near full gas.
Unlike Rujano, who took off at 8kms to go, got caught at 3.5kms to go and spent the rest of the time grimacing on the rear of the top group. Lots of attacks from Scarponi, Machado and Pozzovivo which left him the rear end of a piece of elastic. Each time, he clawed his way back.

However, it was the previously "naive" Fabio Duarte who rode the smartest race. His only attack came at the 300 metre mark and it was too hot for the rest.

These little italian races seem to produce some exciting racing, shame we don't get to see more of them.

This year's race concludes with a mountaintop finish on Madonna di Campiglio which Marco Pantani won at the 1999 Giro d’Italia to give him a commanding overall lead of more than five minutes heading into the final day. But, in a dramatic turn of events, he was disqualified before starting stage 21 for a hematocrit level exceeding 50 per cent and he was never the same rider or person again.

Scarponi looking strong. Hope he does well in the Giro as had good form and put on a great show in many races this year.

It looks like they did km 6 - 5 at a whopping 40km/h! The 6km until finish was a 47km/h average.

I think that's why he won't do well this year. He's overraced and his performance in MSR was too strong.

Just for a quick point of interest, the Top 3 of this race last year was Vino, Ricco and Pozzovivo...

Its always the same - the guys who aren't the best of the best ride slow all year and only go all out at one race....unless you are Contador. Scarponi did great in 2010 Giro and think he will do so again this year.

Interesting list for top 3. There was some good racing tho : )
