Is the Bike OK on a cycle carrier?

hey all - just after some reassurance here. I have a rear cycle carrier that i've used for a few years for lugging my MTB around. Now I have a nice road bike - is it still safe to carry it around on the rear of my car? Will the carbon snap when doing 70MPH on the motoway? Should I take the wheels off or leave them on? :-)

You just need to get over it!
It was a nightmare when I first started taking the Roubaix away with me. £3500 bike on the back of a £1000 saxo. I replaced the carrier with one I was more comfortable with then carried on. I still feel nervous when cornering but I need to get used to it. Drove back from Berks on Saturday (208) miles doing 70-80 most of the way so was fine.Sirrus Comp 2010 (commuting)

I use a Sirrus Bones for my bike. I like the rock-solid feel and once the bike is secured, I forget about it. Of course, there's always a chance some idiot goes into the back of you, but what can you do? :roll:Purveyor of "up"0

Claim off his damm insurance unless he's younger than 20 when he probably won't be insured :evil:0 -
The biggest risk seems to be from scrotes seeing you have a £3k bike, following you home and nicking it. Even if that means breaking in another day.Boardman Elite SLR 9.2S

Think of it this way.
Why would carbon snap at 70mph (with no road buzz since it's on a rack) but be fine descending at 50mph?
Be careful how you clamp and if you have more than one bike on the rack make sure nothing rubs and you'll be fine.0
