Entering my first XC race in the SXC round 2 at Aberfoyle on Sunday.
Ive been doing a lot of riding recently and im feeling it in the legs, was planning to rest up until the race but would that be the right thing to do? 5 days with no leg spinning?
Any tips on what to do in the next few days to get the best out of it?

I personally find 'active recovery' better than full rest. Seems to stop things getting stiff.

I hope you have not sat and done nothing the past 5 days!
Tomorro get out for a short but moderate ride it's about all you can do now
I was out last night for 32 miles at near race pace in prep for Sunday
Will go out for long walk tonight and do a short ride Saturday with a few lung openers
See you at Aberfoyle (what category?)0 -
Totally agree with badly_dubbed. Go out, don't go crazy but keep things moving.
I'm going to ride the course tomorrow to see how I feel about racing on Sunday (aggravated a calf injury at the Kirroughtree round).
Which category are you entering? I'm assuming open as it's your first race. If I'm racing, I'll be in the same class.
Davie, are you going up tomorrow with the Muky's?0 -
I'd not do as much as BD if it was a big race, but certainly wouldn't do nothing. Active recovery is definitely the way to go!0

Yea should be heading up early for practice etc think maybe with alex slaven or Gordon Traynor will find out today probs0 -
I'm aiming to be up there around 10:30 / 11:00 - I think Del, Tom, Bryan and some others are aiming for the same. Might see you in the car park - certainly won't see you after that .0

Yeah its open category. Not sure what to expect really but have been up and tried the course and its ridiculous first descent  ha.
Legs feel good just now. Playing football tonight...I know its not the same but will keep me warm.0 -
Expect it to be alot harder than your practice
Legs will feel like rubber most of the first lap stick in and grind it out you will find your ryhthm.
When that gun goes off.....nail it!0 -
Getting up Heart Attack hill with rubber legs wont work at all, My plan is to get as far up as possible then start running
I tend to push myself harder with other people around. Im confident I will have fun.0 -
You will naturally exert yourself, as soon as the mind hears "race" it goes into race mode automatically
Just fuel up and hydrate (Powerbar,hi5 xtreme an hour before) and Obv a good hearty breakfast and you should be fine...i also tend to drop a gel a lap
Walk about with a drink, 4:1 or simmilar during the day0 -
Personally im not sure about all these energy supplements. Never used them before and dont fancy experimenting now.
Dont fancy racing on a full stomach either so im going to edge more towards a carb filled dinner, small bowl of cereal with a couple of snacks leading upto the race then head down and pump the pistons until im told to stop. Only 2 laps after all.0 -
How'd you find it?
Some climb0 -
Great really enjoyed it. Came a cropper on one of the descents but managed to bounce and get back up quickly. Was pretty slow downhill and gave away a couple of places then clawed them back and then some on the climb before giving 2 places back downhill again.
Finished 6th, which I am happy with given that it was the gnarly downhills that cost me 4th. 1st to 3rd were a few minutes ahead of the rest of us though.
Entering them all from here on in.
How'd you get on?0 -
I was 6th also in sport0
