me and my freind are having a contest for making (on paper) the lightest weight mountain bike possible and I can't seem to get under the 6.5 kilo Mark and he's under 5kilo!
So I'm going to resort to other people and cheat a little bit
But there was rules set at least 100mm of suspension and 2x10
And remember the sky's the limit

Standard after market parts? Many of these super builds have cutom made fork internals, or drilled out specs.

Ok does any one know of a frame that weighs under 500g
That's what he's found and I can't same as his forks weigh less than 800g and mine are over a kilo

No production MTB frames are that light. Scale 899 is the lightest. Ditto forks, there's a sub-800g SID (80mm travel at most!) on Heinz Wittman's Scale, but that's very very custom (read lots of holes drilled!).

Sticking with production parts you'll struggle to get lighter than:

    - DT XRC100 Race LTD forks
    - Innolite XCT210 rims, Extralite Ultrahubs, Puillar ti spokes (c930g), with some Dugast tubs
    - Schmolke TLO bar/seatpost
    - AX Lightness stem and saddle
    - THM Carbones cranks, Carbon Ti rings, XX rear mech and triggers, Campag Super Record front mech, Recon alu cassette
    - Formula R1 brakes, Scrub Raceday rotors
    - I-link cables, with Power Cordz inners

Which will probably see you about 6.5kg. I reckon you'd need to start drilling holes and taking bits out to make it much lighter than that, and frankly there are some concessions I'd make on a build like that to make it nicer to ride. Alu cassettes are light, but don't really work!

why do you have to have 2x10 ?

you save a heap of weight moving to 1x10

As I said: non production parts, and customs.
