Checkeing my bike over before the weekend ride and noticed my rear wheel spokes are not as tight as my front, wheel is still true but the is creaking under load (could be a frame pivot). There is a wothshop at work with a spoke key, is it worth putting so more tension on the spokes or is this a job for a bike shop?

Also is it unsafe to ride a bike with loose spokes?!?

Tension of the spokes provides the majority of the strengh of the wheel. If you tighten incorrectly your wheel will become un-true.

Personally I'd take it in to your lbs and ask them to sort it. I have had the same issue previously, tightened myself, the wheel didn't last much longer....
