Its a gorgeous bike but is she heavy? Could the tyres be changed to something for a country track?

I'll weigh it for you in a bit.
The wheels are 27", not 700c, so tyres may be an issue. The clearances are plenty big enough for chunkier tyres.

I'm not sure if going from 27" to 700c would be a straightforward swap but the sizes are very close. Maybe just moving the brake blocks on the calipers would be enough?

If the metal basket isn't to your liking, I may be able to exchange it for a wicker one.

I have a pair of pedals identical to those in my Box O Shite in the garage, came off an Apollo! Chainset looks very similar as well although the Apollo has a plastic trouser guard on it.

How old is the Apollo? I'd like to get an approximate date for the pedals.

I've weighed it and its about 13kg (inc basket and hand stiched, by me, leather saddle and handlebar grips).

If you hadn't noticed, I'm quite proud of the leatherwork.

I'm thinking about using the remaining leather to make a wallet. My current one was given to me as a 21st birthday present and I'm a long way from 21 now!

I'm just glad you like it and that its gone to a good home. Need a new project now.

I guess that leather wallet will have to do for now.

Never ridden a steel bike before and feels as if all my pedal effort is going into forward motion...is this what they say 'stiffness' is?
She seems to handle london roads very well and I feel a certain connectedness with the bike and the road.
Will try to do a countryside ride at the weekend.

I must say i was grinning from ear to ear during the ride home last night :)

If EKE can't show you what stiffness is, nobody can. Least that's what I've heard....
