Fulcrum Racing 3 freewheel/hub problem

When I was cleaning the bike at the weekend I noticed that the cassette (Veloce) was sliding in and out on the freewheel by about half a cm. I though it was the cassette that was the problem but on closer inspection the cassette is on tight and it's the whole freewheel that's sliding out of the hub!

I'm not clued up on wheels and the bike has to get seen by a pro, but can anyone shed any light on what could be the problem? Am I looking at a whole new hub/freewheel?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem on my (very heavily used) Fulcrum 3's. Pretty sure you can fix it with a new freehub body.

I think Ive got a freehub problem with my Fulcrum 3s too. Not detected any lateral movement but will inspect closely. My problem is a loud metallic click from the transmission. It happens pretty randomely but mostly when I start pedalling after freewheeling. It does not coincide with crank or chain rotation and I have eliminated most other likely causes such as BB bearings, pedals, loose crankset bolts etc. Next step is to try different wheels.
  • had same with fulcrum 1 turned out to be loose yo need 17mm ring spanner i think

My LBS just got in touch to tell me that it's fixed :-)

It had indeed worked itself loose. Probably as a result of some of the roads I've been cycling on.

    I can sleep soundly tonight.
