Slightly off topic but please help!!

My Son bought a cheapy BMX from Helfrauds a couple of months ago (against my advice) and now the one piece cranks have started giving up the ghost....

I was looking to repair them but then I remembered I think I saw an adapter that lets you fit a Shimano HTII bottom bracket bearing into a BMX frame... which would then let me fit a shimano crankset into his BMX...

Is this the right thing :?:
