Average salary

With all the inflation going on I'm finding hard to pin down what the average salary is.
What would you say is the average salary in:
London
North of England
South of England
Ireland (North/South)
Wales
Scotland
And how much would you say you would need to earn to live comfortably?

You're up to speed now that these are 2 differerent countries?
Not just like England and Scotland are different but like France and Spain are different.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
I would guage that the average salary is low in the south west - maybe 15k to 18k. However, living costs are high due to the amount of second homes and areas of outstanding natural beauty - i.e. ripoff Britain.
I don't think that kids around Cornwall and Devon have a fighting chance at a well paid job or a house purchase.
Gets better towards Bristol, but there are still allot of problems around here and Gloucestershire.
People will always live to their salary, both my wife and I have ery good salaries and we are always skint/in debt.......but we have a lovely house, big car and do an awful lot with kids at the weekends.....0 -

Sure it was a pay rise.
Your personal allowance went up a bit (as did the NI contribution)
So your take home pay would have went up a bit“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
I think most people would be quite surprised as to how low the average UK salary is.
I remember being shocked at hearing that if you were a higher rate tax payer it put your household in the top 10% of household income across the country. But this probably goes to demonstrate how clueless I am.You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quin.0 -

Eh?
I assumed you got your pay slip today for your April salary...when you do you'll see your personal allowance has gone up so your take home pay has possibly gone up slighty irrespective of any increase to your actual salary“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -

No - my boss just told me my new salary and my bonus for this year.0 -
"For the tax year ending 5 April 2010 the median gross annual earnings for full-time employees were £25,900, an increase of 0.3 per cent compared with £25,800 in 2009"
They do break it down by region in the report.
By rule of thumb reckoning the average house should be only £136,000 then..... :evil:0 -

April = End of the financial year for most organisations.
If house prices were £136,000 I would buy two and combine them...Food Chain number = 4

If my salary follows my age (e.g. if I'm 30 and I earn £30k) up to about 40 or 45, then I'll be happy. Unfortunately I'm getting older quicker than my salary is going up, but they're not far off....0

Why would that be? You are setting yourself up for misery. What you should be hoping for is to be happy with your salary whatever that salary is. Your age has nothing to do with that. If you can get to a point where you can easily save a decent amount a month, you will be happy. The tricky thing is not to get sucked up into the keeping up with the Jones crap; for example buying a crappy new BMW every 2 years.Faster than a tent.......0 -

I'm a Six Sigma green belt. It's deeply dull.
I have too much self respect to want to become a black belt.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

I measure ones welloff-ness by the number of bikes they own. My boss has 3, I have one. Go figure. I reckon the results of the survey would be the same if we're talking average bikes/household.0
