Shorter padded cycling shorts

I've just bought my first pair of padded cycling shorts which were Endura Padded Liner Shorts in size small. They fit fine around the waist but they're so long! With the crotch firmly supporting the essentials the waistband is around my belly button and the end of the leg is only 2 inches above the knee. I'm 172cm (just shy of 5'8") so not ridiculously short so i'd have thought small would be ok. Is it just this particular brand or is this common for all cycling shorts? Can you recommend a pair that would be slightly shorter both on the leg and waist? Undershorts only please, I'm not ready to show my skinny legs to the world in lycra!

If they're undershorts ...why are you worried about how they look?Cycling weakly0

2 inches above the knee isn't really long. If you look at what the pros wear some will have shorts right down within inches of the knee some have much more upper leg showing. As for how high up they come - just get some bib shorts! You'll question why you ever bothered having shorts to begin with (and you can still wear them under clothers if you're still a bit shy0

Because they're longer than the shorts I planned to wear over the top
I've been out in them for the first time and after 5 minutes peddling they actually ride up the leg a little, just enough to not peak out the bottom of the shorts so problem avoided
My next clothing purchase will definitely be bib shorts!
But for the record, what the pro's wear really doesn't concern me at all. I've only been into cycling briefly but I'm amazed by how much attention is given to what the pro's do in this sport!0 -

The pros ride in the best kit to allow them to do their jobs, noones suggesting everyone has to go out and buy the same stuff but looking at the pros to get guidance on kit and having some similar elements (i.e. chamois design/technology changes) is the way most amatuers in any sport pick their kit. Just as trickle down technology exsists in the bikes in exsists in the clothing as well. It's not a bad thing at all0 -
The high waist is probably deliberate to avoid getting a gap between your shorts and top when bent over the bars and the leg length is about normal for cycling shorts and will help ensure no bare skin rubs on any part of the bike.0
