How to remove plastic covers on Candy X pedals.

I bought some Crank Brothers Candy X clipless pedals recently. So I put the plastic cover on (so that it can be used without clipping in) and now I can't take it off. Any suggestions?
Cheers!

I thought that but I feel like I'm going to over-stress the plastic by doing this.0

twist and pull or clamp the opposing wings very gently in a vice to help open them slightly.0

They pretty rubbish though, might be hard to take off when not on the bike, but pedal down the road and they'll fall off/break by the end of the drive.0 -

Ah i see, i have Candy C pedals but have never heard of this conversion thing, think i'll give it a miss though.0

Yeah, I only put one on just to, y'know, see.
I have managed to take it off with a twist, pull and some force. Now I have part of the plastic over-stressed. I think these will be sitting in my might-be-useful-but-probably-won't-be parts pile then.0 -
It's not a flat conversion, it's more to fulfill the requirement to have reflectors on pedals0
