IMHO Bike is too small for you. You are trying to compensate with a too high saddle, but the top tube is too short even with a long stem.
A bike fit will only fit you properly on the right size bike.0 -
+1 for Mr Timmis,
I went just over a month ago and it has been a revelation/revolution in terms of riding comfort and enjoyment!
I had tried many things in terms of getting position right including advice from friends, trawling forums, reading articles etc.
As with anything the silver bullet is not in the information/knowledge but its application within a holistic view, i.e. looking at you as an individual and then with your bike.
Adrian was able to sort a problem I would never have found or sorted elsewhere and along with a change in position it has had a dramatic effect on my cycling. 8)
Forget whichever upgrade you are planning next, go get a fit!STOP!......... Carry on!

Riding for 5 years, got my first road bike last September and booked for a bike fit on Thursday. Lower left back and left hip buggered.0

My bike is a Medium suited for my height. I have measured the frame and all points are within tolerances as detailed in my online bike fit.
I thought I would give you an update....
Nap was right, seat was too high and I was too forward.
I have now put spacers on the stem and raised the bars, I have also lowered the seat by an extra 10mm and boy its a different machine!
I feel like I am riding a different bike, it has taken pressure off my lower back and wrists, and my everage has gone up by a 1-2mph.
I am going to get a fit though to be sure, when I get half a day to myself! £100 is nothing, esp after just dishing out some $ for some Schwalbe Ultremo ZX Evolutions!0 -
Hoorah! It's great when you suddenly click with a bike position. If I go a few mm either side of what adrian Timmis does I can tell immediately as my power drops a fair bit...0

Ahem. I also said the saddle looked too high. :oops:0

Oh yeah?? In your face :P
Ha, yeah right, you just went back and edited it.
Luckily I saved the original...Pokerface wrote:The saddle needs to be 20mm higher - it looks like you're not on your tippy-toes enough :shock:0 -

Guys, I thought I would add to this thread.
I have done a couple of 50-60 mile rides [further than I did with the back pain], and some short TT rides..
My new position is awesome! With one exception - I also levelled out the saddle so that it is not nose down.
I have very little stiffness in lower back region then only time I can feel it is after a gruelling climb which soon disappears when riding relaxed.
I am very pleased.0 -
had bike fit on friday, seatpost needs replacing with an inline instead of the 25 mm setback, saddle height was 1cm too high and stem needs reducing by 20 mm. I had no idea that the saddle was too far back, overall I can feel my glutes/hips working properly again.0
