Shaggy dog story

Earlier this morning I was out for a routine training ride. An out of control dog runs out from a private drive. I am unable to avoid it despite my best efforts. The collision leaves me flying through the air before hitting the road. I have cuts, bruises....and my left arm broken in two places. I have to see an orthopedic specialist on Monday. I am now in plaster and cycling nowhere for many weeks. My best bike is a bit of a mess as well.

After many weeks of training I was due to fly to Los Angeles in two weeks to cross the USA on that damaged bike. Just back in time to dive off to France for the two etapes du tour. Everything is now off.

Anybody got a crappier dog story. It would cheer me up at least.

It is against the law to allow a dog to be out of control. You should report the incident to the police. Also you have grounds for taking a private criminal case and suing the owner, there are plenty of no win no fee outfits that would love to take up your type of case.
The more that do the less likely this type of thing happens again.
Also if you are a member of the CTC or BC I would have a word with them first.
I have had a similar problem with a certain dog running out from a drive way, fortunately I was able to avoid it on a couple of occasions however I reported it to the police and they had a word with the owner and so far so good no repeat problems.

I have made a formal complaint and statement to the police. I have identified Fido's owner to them. I got some nonsense along the lines of "the law is about biting" I have checked - it's not.

I have also contacted CTC legal services (I am a member).

Will keep you posted as am nearly 10K out of pocket.

I have also noted that nobody has a crappier dog story (yet)

Alun, I read your post last week and wished I could have cheered you up with a crappier canine tale but I could not. Your tale is about as sh*tty as dog sh*t.

Good luck on the turbo, the only thing I can offer is that there really are people worse off, but that probably is not much comfort at the present time :?

    Alun,
Can't offer a worse dog story but I was mown down by a hit and run driver a year ago, I had to use my own insurance to cover my bike and clothing that got trashed.
However through the CTC and their lawyers I received £1800 of damages via the Motor Insurers Bureau, this covered various cuts bruises and two cracked ribs.
A decent cycle helmet by the way saved me from much more serious injury as mine after the crash was a mess rather than me, although I was seeing stars for a while!

Did you get the name of the Police Officer that gave you the fairy story about biting only (as if a broken arm isn't enough), the twat's attitude is tantamount to an insult, relay this rubbish to the lawyers and I hope you get a satisfactory outcome mate.
