Very quick presta question

Just got some new stans rims (different gravy!).
Always used schrader before.
Until I go toobless, only presta valves fit.
Do I need to put the screw collar on the valve? ( the one that screws down onto the rim).
Yes, No, doesn't matter?
What's it for?
It looks as though it could mark/damage the rim if screwed down tightly.

Apologies for ignorance,

Cheers.

yes, to stop the valve flapping about. You don't have to tighten the nuts off it either, just nip it and it won't do any damage at all

I consider my English, even though it's a second language, to be of a fairly decent standard. In fact, it's common for Welsh students to do exceedingly well at English studies.

I apologise for the clipped English in the original post. I was using an iPhone and can never be bothered to type longhand on the irritating little keyboard.

use something else then. I had no idea what the hell you were asking. It's not being a grammar nazi, it's expecting someone to make sense.

I found it pretty easy to understand. You're just being difficult. At the end of the day it does make sense if you can be bothered to take more then a second to read it.

Now let's all calm down and not make this a bitching thread. The question has been answered and opinions have been expressed. End of story.

Really? What the hell does Gravy have to do with anything? Why would going "toobeless" necessitate a change in valve type? And, since I'm guessing (and I am guessing) that he has presta rims, how will schraeder ever fit without drilling?

It's as clear as a very opaque thing.

As for the rest of the thread, what the fark is going on?
My forum name? What does that matter if it's English or not? For the record, it's YeeHaa Mc Gee. It's a name. What language? Hell, I dunno. Considering it has Mc Gee in it, I'm guessing possibly Scottish.
    Happy now, dumbfuk?

    To whom it may concern,

I have just purchased some new wheels. They are fitted with Stan's ZTR rims (They are absolutely lovely and far superior to my previous rims).
I am intending to use the much revered tubeless set-up of the aforementioned rim but until I do, I will have to use inner tubes.
I have only used tubes with schrader valves before but, much to my dismay, only inner tubes with presta valves will fit these marvellous new rims.
The presta valve comes with a threaded collar that screws down over the valve once the tube is securely fitted. Having no experience with these valves, I am left wondering if this collar is an essential piece of equipment, as it looks as though the little blighter might damage my fabulous new rims.
If anybody could impart some knowledgable advice with regard to this matter, I would share with them much gratification.
I must apologise for my appalling ignorance in relation to this subject but, as I have said, I have no previous experience of the presta valve.

    Spiffing language old boy!

But as I said before. It stops the valve moving around (which could be damaged or cause the tube to rip on the hole if not secured). Either way the screw on collar doesn't damage the rims and is only finger tight so don't worry.
