Do you freaks try and start conversations on the tube too?

If I'm cycling alone, its because I want to be alone.
If I'm cycling with mates, then its because I want to be with mates. Not some stranger.

You can try to start a conversation but don't be surprised if you get knocked back. the fact that you have a saddle up yer ars* doesn't get you special privelidges. In fact in London it'd make me even less inclined to talk to you.

Were talking about saying hello for Christ sake, an acknowledgment of a fellow cyclist. Not having a buddy conversation for four hours. If somebody wants to debate the inner workings of a dérailleur, then it's time to act all Howard Hughes.
must i say hello to everyone who has something in common with me then?

I live in the countryside, I might see a hand full of cyclist while I'm out, so to acknowledge five people who share a similar interest is no hardship to me and to be honest almost everybody has a smile and an acknowledgment, as they are enjoying the hills, scenery and wildlife. It's almost hard not to.

that must be it then. i think in most heavily populated place, people stop being people and become background, it's impossible to greet everyone if you're in london. i don't say hello in the countryside but i do smile at them and respond back if greeted.

I think a pleasant hello in passing hurts nobody but engaging in conversation is a whole different ball game. Some people want to and some don't, both are perfectly acceptable forms of behaviour.

What troubles me with the OP is why he (she?) let this continue for 15 mins. How uncomfortable a situation must that have been? Either drop back or move on. By all means think they're rude but to perpetuate that situation for 15 mins, I find very weird.

    I've seen this as well.

I only started cycling a short while ago and whilst out on my Flat bar doing the 15 mile route I have started on passed the same cyclists going in the other direction with regularity, not once did they let on to me.

Now having bought myself a reasonable starter bike and some proper riding kit the same people want to let on to me when we pass each other.

That sort of behaviour really annoys me as well.

Why can't you all just play nicely together as my dear old nan used to say :D

did she? wow mine used to say "oh no not you again i thought i told you to f@ck off"

but she never failed to acknowledge a fellow bingo wing waggler
