Hi,
I'm attempting LeJog in August this year on my own, unsupported but utilising B&B's on the way.
I don't know how far I can cycle in a day/ day on day but it'll be approx 100 so planning 10 days ish.
I'm not prebooking B&B apart form 1st night .
Are there any books or websites with lists of cycle friendly B&B's in the UK without having to go through everyone's Lejog blogs?
Thanks

  • hello chum

i did lejog solo unsupported last june and i did not pre book any accomodation after the first night (lamorna cove). didn't experience any problems, and i would advise you not to pre book as there may be days when 100+ feels easy, but also days when 50+ into wind and rain might feel enough. we all dread rushing around for a bed - but, make an early start and after 7/8 hours in the saddle you've probably had/done enough - and at 1600/1630 you should be able to find a decent 'pit'!

getting back from JoG can be a pain - once you're back in inverness hop on easyjet and you're done! (highland cycles are good lads and will box your bike up for a 'tenner')

    good luck and enjoy yourself

    cheers

    cheers Ed,
That's sound advice - might just checkout that bike store.

  • i found a way of finding b+b accomadation that worked quite well for me. I contacted my wife at lunch time each day and she then got me a B+B near to a point i said i would be at 1900hrs.This had the advantage of when i was having a bad day i was not pushing to get to my next bed and i was not tied to set distances. It is suprising that 20 mins during her lunch hour and an internet link gave me some cheap but very good accomadation.I aimed at 100 miles per day but got took out by a caravan near Loch Ness so for 3 days i only did around 50 miles per day and i found that this method worked very well .
i wish you all the best, i really enjoyed the experiance

There is no central list because there is no single route for the ride. Very few ride reports identify the individual B&Bs so any attempt at compiling a list would be labour intensive and a job for the compulsive/obsessive list maker.

You might have some difficulty in August in some spots - it's the height of the holiday season and I recall cycling through Fort William and Inverness on my LEJOG ride seeing most B&B windows sporting 'no vacancies' signs. No doubt there were places with vacancies but none were immediately apparent. I was glad that I was camping.
