Mines under the house insurance and the insurance covers anything in outhouses up to £75,000 as long as its secured.
Its about £28 a month.0 -
Covered on my home contents for a couple of quid a month extra. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
Nope - in the house, on the car or being ridden.I don't do smileys.

If its a few extra quid on the house insurance I guess i can persuade my parents and give em some cash for that..
Does it have to be in the "house" for house insurance?0 -
Nope garage would be fine. Think sheds are too but check the specific wording.
But your bike will love you more if you keep it snug and warm.I don't do smileys.

Covered under house insurance. Kept indoors to keep it snuggly, and bolted to a heavy duty wall anchor point.

Our M&S house contents policy covers any individual items up to £4k without having to specify them - as our bikes come in under this figures, we're covered!

Worth checking the policies your bikes are covered under.
I know that mine (as I work for the company that covers it) won't cover
The bike whilst it's in use
As mentioned, the bike; if away from the home has to be in a secured/locked building or attached to a permanantly fixed structure between the frame or back wheel
The bike isn't covered on a new for old basis (a reduction will be made for depreciation/wear & tear if a total loss occurres)
Other than that it's covered in the home/boundaries including sheds/garages. If left in the garden say it would only be coered upto £1000.
In my experience lot's of people have Home Insurance (Contents in this case) but very few actually know what they're covered for/againstCube Hanzz Pro FRSquarepants wrote:It's not that I'm over over biked, my bike is under personed...0 -

My bikes tend to sulk in the snug and warm.
They love me more when I treat them rough and they are getting dusty/dirty/muddy etc
Although they do seem to like a clean and mini service/rebuild.
Just make sure your bikes don't become too accustomed to the snug and warm enviroment, as before you know it, they won't want to go out and play!0 -
it is normally rate 10% on value for a stand alone policy, or for pennies on a household.
household does not like bikes over £4k, so i am uninsured.
Look at the kryptonite fahgetaboutit locks.
buy 3 and your bike will not be stolen.
£300 is less than a years insurance.
cutting those locks will take 20+ minutes with an angle grinder, no thief will do that. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -
house insurance only covers 1 item upto useal value of £1500, but you have to declare this item useally.London2Brighton Challange 100k!

All of then on the household insurance. They total about £7k.
Adds about £300 to the cost of the insurance.0 -
My insurance policy looks like this:
But seriously, im not sure. I live at home and while I know we have house insurance I certainly dont know the specifics. As my stepdad keeps alot of his work gear in the brick shed (where my bike is stored, chained to the ground anchor chemically fixed to the concrete floor) i'm guessing it's covered. :?0 -
No, house insurance at the moment. I also have some cover via travel insurance but that only works if I take the bike out of the country.
However, one thing to be careful with about house insurance is the amount they cover may be high, but there may also be a limit for individual items.
This is especially the case for items "away from home". This is something I need to look into as mine covers £2500 worth of items away from home inc bikes, but there's an individual item limit which I think is far less, like about £500.
Watch out also for the small print for away from home or locked in the shed, about how exactly the bike is secured. They may insist on particular types of locks.
Bike nicked from a car might not be covered by the house insurance also, but possibly on the car insurance, though high chance of all kinds of get out clauses there.
Smashing up your bike is another matter. House insurance probably won't cover it. Dedicated insurances might to a degree but watch out for a load of get out clauses.
Alternatively, think about how often your bike is likely to get nicked or broken. Then add up how much a month a dedicated insurance will cost you. Compare against the value and unless you get your bikes nicked every few years, you could probably just save the money each month towards a new bike (whether nicked or not).0 -
I dont have any cover. The main reason being I dont have anywhere to store my bike at home so i keep it either in my Nan's garage or my friends garage0
