Out of curiosity guys, why do shimano shifters have the indicators for what fear your in so far forwards? so much so that if you have it in a "usable" possition then you cant see them therefore whats the point of them beeing there at all? is there any way of taking them off?

cheers guys and gals!

Mine are fine, never heard of anyone else having the same problem.
They do come off some models.

I've never seen the point in them

I have 2010 SLX shifters and I took them off.

EDIT - I had them, I've just sold them.

humm guess it might just be my set up, when i was trying out bikes before i got my new one they were all like that too. probably because they have the brakes and shifters all up at the end of the bar, should really be moving my brakes inwards a little and that might give them a little room to rotate a tad so then i can see them  haha

    cheers guys

I can't say I've ever needed to use the gear indicator. In fact, on both of my geared bikes right now, I don't even have them
