If they manage to keep Ricco off the dope then Pope Benedict can claim it as one of his miracles when they decide to make him a saint.

I guess it's worth it for the team for the publicity and exposure they will get from this. But seriously?!

I am obviously missing something here? Hasn't he been caught doping twice and therefore requires a lifetime ban? Is this not the case still?

    **Thinks out loud***

Was he actually not 'caught' this second time?

Which bit in particular Mr Fighter?

I thought he speaks a bit of sense however, strange how he was going to take Pricco on and yet also wants lifetime bans for dopers.

    Hmmmm

At this point in time, though, a sense of limbo exists and his controversial career rumbles on. The sense of unease will be further exacerbated by a quote from David Millar’s new autobiography, which will be released on June 16th. According to viaemilianet.it, he refers to former Saunier Duval team-mate Riccò as “the most suspicious rider I’ve met.

“Despite being just 22 years old [then], he had a total familiarity with needles. Before the big races, he sat on the team bus and injected substances.”

Maybe he did? Ricco got busted after Holy David left SD, following a positive test on stage 4 of the TdF. At that point, the race had only flat stages & TTs and Ricco was nowhere on any of the stages or classifications, so he wasn't due an "official" test. He was obviously being targetted - perhaps Millar had tipped them off?

... to combat doping in cycling we do not want to confess, but to get facts

So, confessions are no good, but facts are. The boy's a moron.

Erm, timing's a bit off. SD was his route back into the peloton after his ban. My guess is that he was pretty grateful to the SD management for that

    Health reasons?

Have they found something actually wrong with his health or using this as an excuse to provisionally suspend him?

Surely ICF would have to state what is wrong with his health ( apart from mentality unstable which is already well known)?

For his health, or the health of cycling?

If we assume he is telling the truth, I would think concerns over his kidneys packing up suddenly for no reason would be a good start,.

If we assume he is telling lies, they may want him out of racing while they investigate and this is a reasonable way to do it.

    He is now officially banned
    CONI's anti-doping court bans Ricco

Cyclist Riccardo Ricco received a preliminary ban from the Italian Olympic Committee's anti-doping court Friday.

The move came a day after the Italian cycling federation's health commission suspended Ricco "for reasons related to the athlete's own health."
Unlike the cycling federation suspension — which applies only to competitions in Italy or participation with an Italian team — the CONI ban prevents Ricco from competing anywhere in the world.
Ricco has not raced since he was rushed to a hospital after feeling ill at his home near Modena in February. The doctor who treated him reportedly told police that Ricco admitted transfusing his own blood, which he allegedly kept in his home refrigerator.
Ricco denies the allegations and was preparing to race again after joining the third-division Meridiana-Kamen team, which is managed in Italy but has a Croatian license and no biological passport program. He was planning to make his debut with his new team in the Tour of Serbia beginning on Monday.
Ricco is also facing inquiries from the public prosecutor in Modena, and CONI will eventually make a more permanent ruling.
If a transfusion is proven, Ricco could face a lengthy ban from CONI, having already tested positive for the advanced blood-booster CERA after winning two mountain stages in the 2008 Tour de France. That resulted in a 20-month suspension.
Ricco was fired by Dutch team Vacansoleil-DCM after the incident in February, having previously been fired by the Saunier-Duval team for his positive tests at the 2008 Tour.
