Chain not sitting on chainring properly

I have recently purchased a stronglight 2000 crankset.

The issue I am having is the chain does not fit snug on the teeth. It appears the width of the teeth are different to the width of the chain links, so the chain sits on the teeth rather than in them.

The chain was previously used on a cheaper stronglight crankset with no issues.

Anyone have any ideas?

Regards

Perhaps the chain has worn, causing it to stretch? If it is very worn it needs replacing. You might then find that the new chain slips on the old sprockets (cogs at the back) if they are worn too, in which case you'd also need to replace them.

The chain is old, about 2 years. Only thing I don't understand is how would it fit on the old crankset but not the new one? Could the teeth have worn on the old one?

    yep, worn

fyi you should check for chain wear regularly, and replace the chain before it gets too worn, otherwise your cassette and chainrings will suffer accelerated wear and no longer mesh correctly with a new chain

you can buy a gauge or use a ruler, tells you how here...
