Good morning chaps,
I decided to get fully involved in mountain biking again this summer after many years of absence.
To that end, I need a new bike since my 1996 Gary Fisher Joshua X really isn't exactly up to speed anymore :)

I saw a 2009 GF Roscoe 3 at a local bike shop and am wondering if that is a good deal. I mean, it is awesomely specced and in the range of £2.2k, there is nothing comparable that I know of. However, I don't think it is particularly good deal for a 2009er bike?

What do people think?
Thank's very much in advance!!
Arne

PS: GF ROCKS!! ;)

The Roscoe is a sorted semi-aggro trail bike and although I'm not familiar with the exact spec of the 3, it was one of those bikes that slipped under the radar when it came out.

I doubt very much that you'll find a 2011 bike that comes anywhere near it and providing it fits you and feels good I don't think you'll be disappointed.
  • its still not cheap tho, even after two years. i hear people in the states talking about paying $2k for it!!

i'm trying to haggle with the guy, but doesn't look good :(
  • the price seems rather high for a 2 year old bike, i saw a simular bike/same model on singletrack forum for £1100

Roscoe 3 was £2800 in 2008 so your lbs is not exactly giving it away. Even so the spec is still most excellent and they know this. Suggest £1800 and meet halfway at £2k?

  • .blitz, my thoughts exactly. all depends on whether they want to move at all.... now just waiting for the manager to call me back....

    thank's for thoughts guys!

oh, one more thing. since GF is gone now, what happens if I manage to break the frame, how would the new owners deal with that? I wouldn't usually worry about breaking a frame, but I read online a few people managed it back in the days!

The Gary Fisher brand was bought by Trek to make them look all cool and trendy. Even though it hasn't worked :) frame warranties should be honoured by Trek UK
  • wouldnt it be better to meet them in person than make deals over phone?

I know most people tend to get worse deals over phone than in person.

face to face says a lot, if you cant get good price face to face you know where you stand at least, over phone you dont get much deals done....unless you Alan suger

If the 'manager' takes that long to call you back to make a sale, good luck dealing with them if you have a warranty problem.

  • ha, offered 1700 and got it for 2k, not a bad result me thinks!!
    good advice...:)

the front fork is in a bit of a state cause it has been standing around for two years, apparently you just bounce it around for the oil to mix again and it'll be fine.... i asked them to explain the warranty of each part to me when i pick it up on saturday, i don't want the seals to blow two days later and be liable myself....
