    NOS ritchey tires
    NOS ritchey saddle
    27mm/400mm seatpost

wasted no time in getting the tires and seat mounted, and also stripped the M900 crank for the 34t ring to go on.

i noticed the BB would have to be changed as the single speed crank wouldnt enjoy a 125mm spindle, a spare 110mm was on hand though......and i had to pop into the LBS to get them to have a go at removing it, it was stuck fast and i couldnt find a long bar to shift it.

anyway, heres whats been done so far, just needs cables and a few set up adjustments. size is fine thankfully. cant wait to ride it outside of the garden!

had the bike into the LBS today to get the headset checked, i had put a part on wrong

and to get cables for the brakes, had to change the front as a part was missing, no idea where it is.....so has a shimano front canti now!

rides great though, so enjoyed a little ride in the evening sunset.....the whole reason i built the bike up was for rides like this.

    great stuff 8)

very racey ride, low and tight!

it wont see much dirt though, i have others for that, i always fancied one of these.......and decided to give the almost 20yr old frame a nice retirement!

I like it, glad that you've taken the time to restore it instead of it going on a scrap heap.

Why would you buy a classic frame like that and then ruin it by running it as a single speed?

So it's the world's most epic fail of a roadbike?

    I do actually get it.

You've built it as more of a museum piece. Something to be admired rather than ridden, although you can still take it for a little spin when the weather is nice and the mood takes you.
A bit like someone who owns a classic sports car. It's never going to see a track, but it'll pootle along a-roads quite nicely

why the cantis. god i could not wait to bin then when Vs came about.

and if it is going to spend time on the roads up the ratio and get slicks on it.

    looks ok though.

has to have cantis, they are a must for bikes this age.

the mix of a modern wheel set and old but as new parts means the ride is reliable and as it should be.

no need for gears where i ride this, like i say, i have other bikes for off road days :o

Just goes to show that one part of this great biking thing we do is about expressing yourself, and being an individual. The basic design and construction of bicycles allows us to interpret the technology available into something that we feel represents our ideas about bikes. If we all rode the same standard bikes then surely our world would be less interesting and diverse. Personally the Chas Roberts above would not be my choice, but as a project I think old saltyman has created something to be proud of - well done mate!
