Cutting outer gear/brake cable

Is there an easy 'homemade' method to cut outer cable without investing in the parktool wire cutters or the like. I've tried using standard wire cutters to cut the rubber wire etc, but can't get a junior hacksaw to bite on the metal coil wire, instead it chews up the outer rubber and slips off the metal, so I've had no luck cutting the wire and have just made a mess
Any ideas greatly recieved

Dremel with a clean new cutting disc.
But decent cable cutters arent expensive and will last a very long time if you look after them. I have seen a set by Icetoolz for a tenner on fleabay.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -
Had considered that as my next best option, and I'll check out those cutters - cheers StubsIntense 5.5 EVP0

Just buy some ordinary cable cutters off Ebay or Halfords. Half the price of 'bike' ones and exactly the same.
Mine cost about a fiver and have cut dozens of cables.
Something like this - have two cutting areas which work well for inner and outer cables.

i just use std side cutter pliers, work a traet,
have heard a tip of using an old inner wire poked through to stop any crushing of the inner liner, not used it personally but supposed to do a very good jobTimmo.
